DECISION CHECKLIST

Is this process ready to automate?

Five questions to ask before turning a manual process into an automated one.

1. Is the process stable?

If the steps change every time, first identify what is consistent and what requires judgment. Automate the repeatable parts, with a human path for exceptions.

2. Is the input reliable?

Check that the required data exists, is accurate, and arrives in a predictable format. Missing or inconsistent inputs can make a fast process fail faster.

3. Is there a clear owner?

Name the person responsible for the workflow and the person who will respond when an automation fails. Define where errors should appear.

4. Can you test and undo it?

Try realistic cases, including duplicates and missing fields. Use test records first. Decide how to stop the automation and recover from a mistake before it touches live work.

5. Will it be worth maintaining?

Compare the time or quality benefit against setup, software cost, and upkeep. A good checklist may be the better first improvement.
